Friday 27 January - Jonathan Brewer

 - All your Waves are belong to us

Ratified by the IEEE in July 2011, 802.22 employs Cognitive Radio techniques to find gaps in licensed broadcast television spectrum, enabling wireless broadband to take over the airwaves. What does this mean for New Zealand? I'll talk about how the technology works, how much spectrum is available here in New Zealand, and why it's so better than 2.4/5.8GHz. For great justice.

Jonathan founded open access wireless broadband carrier Araneo, now a subsidiary of TeamTalk and sister company to CityLink. While at Araneo, he built a national microwave and wireless network servicing fourteen retail telecommunications providers and New Zealand's largest agribusiness. Jonathan is an MED Approved Radio Certifier, and a member of industry groups IEEE, InternetNZ, and TUANZ. He maintains technology blogs at http://nztelco.com/ and http://kiwibrew.tumblr.com/ and is active on the microblogging site Twitter as @kiwibrew.
