The Opening of the 48th New Zealand Parliament

On Monday 7 November and Tuesday 8 November, 2005, we streamed the opening ceremonies for the 48th NZ Parliament. 

Monday 7 November 2005 - The Commission Opening

The opening and proclamation by the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal, followed by the swearing in of all elected Members of Parliament. Then comes the election of Speaker.

Later in the afternoon, the elected Speaker goes to Government House to receive his/her warrant from the Governor General.

Tuesday 8 November 2005 - The State Opening

At approximately 2pm the Governor General  opened  Parliament with a speech from the throne, in the Legislative Chamber. This  included all elected Members of Parliament, The judges from the Supreme Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal. There was also be a guard of honour from all three armed services.
